What can we do to improve demos?

CDT states that they abandoned the engine and there is no way to convince anybody to look at it's corpse for even minor improvements. But since we have referees that check matches for hacking anyway, can we enable things like multi-pov demos, aka demos that save the data of the entire match and not a single client, and stuff like that? I mean, it's a wonderful graphics engine in spite of it's flaws and being on life support with frag movies is a lot funner than without.

Here are some recent videos of several dead games, but none of the players have fear investing more time in the game because the prospect of glory is still there even without tournaments, so you end up with displays of skill from people who've been playing for 10+ years.

Considering ns2 has a better graphics engine than arguably any competitive fps, there is a lot of potential for some amazing community fragmovies.

I wouldn't argue for pushing development of this before season 5, but if we could enable multi pov demos before season 5 so that we could use the demos in the future, that'd be great.

I've been wanting and asking for this since beta. It's a quality of life suggestion, but on the other hand it can very be helpful in promoting competetive play.

The thing is, as I understand it, that this is a big and complex coding task that could take months of work just to get the basics to work. I would still love this feature and I'm sure it could help the game regain some interest, but it takes that someone to invest their time into it. And all the best modders are tied up in other projects as CDT and the comp mod.

I was asking UWE for this like a billion times, to no avail. The CDT also kinda rejected it.

Don't have too much hopes on this!

(in other words, sorry man, no chance)

I too have been asking for this for over a year since I became an admin for the NSL because reviewing demos is an arduous task. There's no scrubbing feature and you can not fast forward or rewind. You have to watch demos in real time and if you want to rewatch something, you have to watch the WHOLE thing over.

The only reason the CDT hasn't made this a priority yet is that it isn't a simple task that can be done in a few nights or weeks. It's a massive coding process to add a robust system in. Just don't have anyone willing to take it on right now.
