I was wondering if UWE was considering putting a matchmaking system into the game. Some sort of system where people can join with 6 players and search for a match, or even something like the gather system in-game. I feel that a large portion of the community would enjoy the system and benefit from it. I also feel that it could help attract more people to the game, as it is currently hard to enter the competitive scene.

Would love to hear your opinions about this subject.

I'm not sure UWE is ever going to integrate such a system in the game. It could probably be implemented as a serverside mod, but even then I'm not sure it is possible to do it interface-wise.
We have the ENSL gather system here and it should be improved heavily in the next iteration of the website.

I don't know what you mean. First, the gather allows any player to play with any other player, including a lot of div 1 or div1-level players. That's a hell of a larger possibility than in most other games to have the chance to play and communicate with top players. Second, anyone can play in the ENSL leagues provided they have a 6-man team. You can play matches against teams roughly your level and if you're good enough, reach division 1 ! Third, the cups we're going to organize will allow your team to further prove itself since you will have the opportunity to play against other teams and potentially prove your level of play against known strong teams.
So no, joining the competitive scene has never been hard in NS (and is even easier in NS2) as long as you behave decently and play a lot, we it in gathers or competitions.

But huhuh is right .. get TS and join a gather .. most ppl are pretty nice and help you along the way!
