So, about 6 months ago, tired of the idiotic UI in this game and after reading a forum discussion I made this mod to let users tweak the UI to their liking. Since this doesn't affect gameplay, it's purely cosmetic, and by default you won't notice a difference from vanilla NS2 (for specs), I'd love being able to use this during official ENSL matches and I'm sure other people would too. Considering the awesome modding capabilities of NS2 it's required to be running in the server to run this client-side mod.

You can change the settings in the options menu (at the bottom) or through the console:

Custom HUD Commands
-------------------------------------
chud_assists: Removes assist score popup
chud_banners: Removes the banners in the center of the screen ("Commander needed", "Power node under attack", "Evolution lost", etc.)
chud_blur: Removes the background blur from menus/minimap
chud_gametime: Adds or removes the game time on the top left (requires having the commander name as marines)
chud_hpbar: Removes the health bars from the marine HUD
chud_kda: Switches the scoreboard from KAD to KDA
chud_mingui: Removes backgrounds/scanlines from all UI elements (still not finished)
chud_minimap: Removes the entire top left of the screen for the marines (minimap, comm name, team res, comm actions)
chud_minnps: Removes building names and health/armor bars and replaces them with a simple %
chud_minwps: Removes all text/backgrounds and only leaves the waypoint icon
chud_particles: Reduces particle clutter
chud_rtcount: Removes RT count dots at the bottom and replaces them with a number
chud_score: Disables score popup (+5)
chud_showcomm: Forces showing the commander and resources when disabling the minimap
chud_smalldmg: Makes the damage numbers smaller
chud_smallnps: Makes fonts in the nameplates smaller
chud_tracers: Disables weapon tracers
chud_unlocks: Removes the research completed notifications on the right side of the screen
chud_wps: Disables all waypoints except Attack orders (waypoints can still be seen on minimap)

I like it, it'll help a lot with the unessesary view blockers and it might even give more fps. I like no HP bars being gone and names can get smaller.

This mod was allowed in the CyberGamer AU league without any issues before it was unsupported. The great thing about it is that its server side, but client customisable, so everyone is on a level playing field.

Any news on this mod, the low texture mod and the bug fixing one from admins? Decisions etc?
Tbh the game is in a state were we can't rly afford losing time on bs thinking like hooah but ppl are gonna cheat! Plz we know every single player in the community!
Everything that can make the game more competitive is welcomed.

I fucking miss a r_drawviewmodel 0 too, and would so love this.

I'm fairly sure it'll be allowed in Season 4, I THINK Zefram said he liked it and now blind aswell. I don't know about the low textures mod though but I'm hoping it will be since I don't really have the best specs and it's only going to help.

It'll just need to be tested, I guess.

I've tried that low textures mod and it helps alot for me with FPS drops. I hardly think it gives you more advantage at anything more than having a decent stable game, like it should be.
+1 to use.

No gun model on marines however is abit different, but if it's open to everyone to use, that would also make it no real advantage i guess.
So +1 aswell.

There's a FOV adjustment slider bar in game under the GENERAL TAB in the OPTIONS menu. That should be sufficient.

Updated yet again:

- Added command to switch between KDA and KAD in the scoreboard (chud_kda)
- Added command to switch tracers on and off (chud_tracers)
- Added command to make the damage numbers smaller independent of the nameplate size (chud_smalldmg)
- Added command to switch between default particles and minimal (chud_particles)

For now, in the particles command I've disabled all the marine building explosions and tweaked enzyme and mucous. Please let me know if I've gone crazy with the tweaking and what you want to see tweaked next.

I have published an update. I have made it so any time you make changes it doesn't destroy the entire UI (was causing issues with commanders/spectators), it only reloads what is necessary.

I also added a new option:
chud_gametime: Adds or removes the game time on the top left (requires having the commander name as marines)

And I have tweaked nutrient mist, it has less particles and half the opacity.

Let me know if there are issues and I'll fix them ASAP.

I'm reviving this post to ask this (blatantly c&p'd from my post in the UWE forums):

There's been a request to add a parasite indicator for marines, which should be doable with something as simple as changing the color of the name in the nameplate, or even adding a parasite icon next to the name, etc, and I'd like to know everyone's opinion about it. This would be only for friendlies, of course, since aliens can already see what's parasited.

This is merely a QoL fix to the game, so there wouldn't be a toggle or anything.

Also I'm working on more accurate stats for the next update, since I will be tracking the hits server-side.

Oh by the way, I've had a working alien vision toggle for ages, but it's disabled as it wasn't allowed in the NS2WC, I'm thinking of detecting the NSL/NS2WC mod and allowing it for pubs, but then again if it can't be used in competitive there's no point in getting used to it...

OK where would the problem be to enable the alien vision toggle on every NSL server

I mean the old reason about "its an unfair disadvantage" is gone

because even Low particle effects and minimal HUD could be "unfair disadvantage"
(and these are allready free setable with the console)


So Grow some balls be nice to everybodys EYES and enable the Alien vision on the Servers.
(design flaws of UWE can be corrected you do it with no close spawn mod too)

It is clear by now that UWE have no intention of implementing anything similar to the old alien vision or their own version of a toggle with something more usable. I do not think we should have to live with their poor design decisions, especially when there is an elegant fix as in this case. I am unaware of anyone in the comp community that thought it should have been changed in the first place, so it is unclear to me why there is any issue with an option that changes it back.
