We are in the last weeks of the season and for the admin-team this means we need to start thinking about off-season-activities.
One Cup, which had been performed in the past was a Nations Cup. The last one, however, only got limited response and never really finished, afaik.
It would be easy to just dump the Nations Cup, due to decreased interest. However, I would like to see, if that is really the case.
One issue I see with the Nations Cup is the need of teams to organise themselves, often without any leadership involved. So, for another iteraion of the Nations Cup to happen, we need some teamcaptains first.
As captain of your nation's team you are responsible to assemble a team, representing your nation. You need to get in contact with people and make sure that there is a team of 6 present on match-times.
Everyone can pick up the flag and hold it high, it doesn't matter how good you as a player are. What we do care about, however, is your organisational talent. Being a team-captain before is definitely a plus, but not a prerequisite.
If we can find 8+ suitable teamcaptains, the Nations Cup is going to happen.
Pooling somewhat related countries is also a possibility (Skandinavia, BeNeLux, Balkans, Baltic States, UK...)
In the case that more than one person, wants to captain, there are a couple of possibilities:
* The two (or more) persons can sort it out themselves
* They collect votes from their respective communities
* They decide it in mortal combat
* Said country will be represented by more than one team.
The last option is a curious one, but would work well with another concept, we think of including:
To make the Nations Cup more interesting for the small NS2-countries out there, we could limit the number of "prem-players" fielded in each match to 2. A prem-player would be defined to be any member of a team, who reached the top 8 of current div1.
This would make a couple of match-ups much more exciting.
On the downside, we are not seeing the best teams a country can offer anymore. It becomes more a clash of communities, as a country with a healthy and large community can still assemble the better team and/or send a second horse into the race.
Those numbers (top8 of Div1 or TopX of Div1, every team after first round of elimination in playoffs..., limited to X players), as well as the whole idea, are open for discussion.
Discuss this option here.
Contact me or any of the staff directly, if you are interested in leading your country to war!
(in the NS2 Nations Cup I mean, please don't bother us with your world-domination dreams :P)
