One of the most challenging things in this game is the hive push - especially when Aliens have higher life forms.

Now the setup for this video is we know that the Aliens have no lerks, but they do have two Fades, so what this means is we can push in their hive with all shotguns. Had there been a Lerk alive, we would have needed one of us to bring an LMG, and solely focus on shooting the Lerk.

Also at this time, we had just sacked Nano and were running back to establish a phasegate, while the Aliens continued working on res-biting, so in other words, they were a little out of place and unprepared for a hive push, which allows us to get their hive down to 42% before they could put together a proper response.

Notice how when we move in for the hive push, we all stand within arms-length of each other. This formation is crucial in pushes because it allows us to help shoot skulks off each other (See 0:32). Also, tap calls from the start of this push to "focus the fades when they come near" which happens at 0:34 when Zafod dives in on Wake and I, he runs into 3 shotgunners who obliterate him.

At this point, I know that 4 of them are in the spawn queue so I jump on shooting eggs to prevent them from spawning and force the last fade back into the room to try to spawn more eggs. Once they have a few skulks alive and can try to crush us again, we jump back in that line formation so that we can shoot skulks off eachother again.

Throughout the last 15 seconds, when its mainly me/tap left, notice that I continue to pump shots into the hive even while still fighting off skulks. This is mainly because I want to take high percentage shots - either we're not being engaged, or I don't have a great shot on any lifeforms (this is really noticeable at 1:01). I also know the hive is getting dangerously low, so it creates added pressure for the fade to take risky engagements, which leads to me getting him at the end there.

All told, I shot the hive 12 times throughout that clip while taking on skulks/fades simultaneously, doing roughly 2300 damage (about 1/3 of it's health) to the hive single-handedly.

Just a bit of formatting help there.

Nice explanation on the actual hive push it self and really helpful.

The context is a little grey. It is minute 15 so you're expecting either onos, re-lerk, or 2nd hive, so this 4 man hive push was either desperate or poorly thought out. Particularly as we called the info in west junction (from overlook sound) and even parasited you in system and Y-junction along with the pg blueprint.

Your timing on the push was pretty good otherwise and the better team won :)

^Right, we were trying to push in before Onos went up as well - that was really our main concern if I remember correctly.
