It's humorous to me that most of the people saying to finish out the season on vanilla didn't join the comp scene until after Compmod existed.
Have fun with lifeform eggs, 450 hp cysts everywhere and having everything you touch parasite you.

I think next season, if it happens, will go very poorly. There's so much great non-ns coming out right now, then summer, then more non-ns.
Then maybe all the changes PDT are making may come together into something cohesive enough to do a small "re-release" or phase 3 "F2P 'wire-up'" to get people back. If you get over how terrible the changes are individually, you can see some kind of potential to have a fresh experience in a few months+ once much more is changed.
The way they're trickling features certainly lends to the end of NS2 competitive mindset.
Regardless, I'll still be looking to play Captains on Tuesdays, etc
@Mephilles
Oh I see, I totally agree with you but the devs are trying another path :s
@Golden ha man I miss the fast lerk egg meta. You had to be sure the lerk in your team was a hard carry and on a good day to make it worth it. But yeah, the fade spam was shit.
We need a topic with all the good'old strats :(
I'm switching to overwatch. NS2 was a blast though. I had my fun. The competitive scene was great while it lasted. I've achieved nearly everything that I wanted to in NS2. Won multiple seasons with some great people. I'm hoping some of them may switch to overwatch with me. If not that's fine too. Peace.

Didn't even play this season, been waiting for a good FPS game since ns1. Looks like Overwatch fits the bill. See you euro's on bnet. I hope i never have to play with you muricans/aussies ever again.

Nope. Most of ausns is going to play overwatch. See you in cologne.
I won't be playing next season or finishing this one. It's not a surprise to me though and not really a direct consequence of the past week, I had always expected to have to give up playing once I had to go back to work.
However I really want to say one thing to all of you, if you either stay playing NS2 or move on to a new game, at some point or another you will run into mods again. If you are an admin or creating a league of some kind, please PLEASE insist on only using open source mods.
I know for many this sounds like some stupid hippie shit, but it's really not. I'm a developer and I work for companies developing proprietary software all the time, I'm not on a personal crusade for open source. It's really coming from a practical standpoint. For "community" mods, a community license makes sense....
If CompMod/NS2+ were open source, any developer (and this community actually has many), could contribute bugfixes or whatever without permission from the owner. We would not depend on the owner being around, its a ton of work to be the only maintainer of an actively used piece of software. And no owner can pull a 5-yearold screw you guys I'm taking my toys and going home move, this has happened at least twice in the last year.
In an ideal world, a single guy owning and running a mod used by entire community wouldn't be a problem, but in the real world of narcissists too many things will go wrong.

NS2 can live on. It's one thing if you want to do something else, but if people are just going to play a different game - let's see if those games have the same appeal that kept you with ns2 so long. Seems like people can't wait to quit this game, and people have probably been waiting to do it, so now people can feel good about moving on. If this gives you your chance to quit, then you can take it - but why not see if the other games are really better.
When do we find out if season 9 lives on?

IF YOU DISAGREE WITH THE PDT YOU ARE A TOXIC INDIVIDUAL THAT THE GAME IS BETTER OFF WITHOUT!!!!1111
That's what I'm getting from the people supporting these retarded changes.
Well then, have fun getting completely fucked over by the PDT while they try to keep their sorry ass jobs sacrificing anything they have to in order to reach some arbitrary goal set by UWE.
Sorry for being TOXIC.
