With a relatively recent change to NS2, you no longer automatically pick up your primary weapon if you aren't looking at it. So for example, you go near the shotgun, you don't look at it directly with your crosshair, you assume the game will default to picking up the primary weapon...you end up picking up a welder and curse everything.
How it currently works:
You have to aim with your crosshair which weapon you want to pickup. If your crosshair is closest to the shotgun, you will pick it up, but you have to aim at it or closer to it than the welder (i believe that's how it's supposed to work) to make sure it happens. Might depend on what settings you have on, as the game can tell you on bottom of screen which weapon you will pickup if you drop your weapon.
I wanted to make sure that was communicated because people might think it feels random right now. Which it does feel random, when you aren't aiming at the weapons. It isn't random if you aim with your crosshair.
