- Grenade launchers and flamethrowers become hazardous and less viable
- Identifying incoming damage sources becomes confusing in group situations
- Lerk support becomes hazardous as spikes hit aliens busy in close combat
- Poison gas kills your team
- Would require significant balance modification and damage calculations
- Bilebombs? Mines? Turret fire? Whip balls? Hydras? Babblers?
Lots of things to consider. I think it would likely need limiting to non aoe moves, and then for competitive scene only if brought in. Not a fan really but can see the appeal.
Eistee you nibbz, that is I think from some official I think (could have been pcw). Fek'Lyrs was one of the better teams of that time (which is not much but yeah). I did that once in a competitive game as well (BY ACCIDENT). Most epic way to tk your whole team.
I kind of doubt you have your entire Team standing around the Base in a Official .. if so .. well why not kill em all i mean you wont win anything anyway XD !
And dont tell those NS2 lollerz that i am a nibz . Damn you Jerky !
I'm not a fan of this. The comp NS2 game should be as close to the pub version as possible to support the best transition of skilled pub players/teams to comp players/teams. FF changes too much of the game for this to work well.
It was 1.04 where everyone was in the base to get JP+HMGs for a rush. And at that time JpHMG's were the most imba thing in history of NS. I think it was 1-2 clips to a kill a hive.
In that clip, commander dropped a hmg on someone, his lmg flew off to a mine, which exploded, exploding all other mines and killing your own team. good game.
This is 100% for competitive games only. Not for public servers..
Yes of course it should be like pubs otherwise. It should be the same game except friendly fire is on lol. Grenades should kill your team. Flamethrowers should kill your team. LMGs should kill your teams. Shotguns should ABSOLUTELY kill your team. Bite should kill your teams, Poison Bite should kill your team, swipe should kill your team, gore should ABSOLUTELY kill your team, Spikes should kill your team. Spores should NOT kill your team, aliens are immune, duh. That's good whereas "nanite" armor is a cop out. If leap ever does damage.. it should kill your team. Vortex should be useable on your team. Stomp should affect your team, but that one i don't care I can see it either way.
Well a fade cant be Stomped .. or a lerk .. i mean their "natural Abilities basically say .. i am light on my feet .. i basically can fly .. so why would i care if the ground is shaking if i am mostly in the air anyway? !
Except FF is a pretty serious change of the game. Also, when you enable it you start needing to make judgement calls, such as making spores not do ff, to prevent parts of the game from breaking.
Not really a judgement call you can just look at NS1 .. basically everything did Friendly Fire but Stomp and Gas ... use that and there is not much to think about it .. it worked back then it will work now.
And as i mentioned .. ppl will adjust and the game will be more interesting !
Yes, not using friendly fire is almost as big a cop-out as allowing draw damage in competitive games.
And just to note, I posted this on the NS2 competitive website because I only want it implemented for competitive games. It's silly in public server xD
The point of friendly fire in competitive games, really, is that you shouldn't ever be missing, and when you do miss, you certainly shouldn't ever be aiming at your teammates.
Bilebomb shouldn't damage friendly armor in my own opinion. If it did however it would be somewhat game changing for some situations, and I don't think it would be a necessarily bad thing.
Parasite should effect friendly structures. This is just a good game idea because it would provide a way to focus something as a team that someone got line of sight on. But again I don't think it matters.
Point being: the changes friendly fire introduces will quickly be adapted to, no matter how it is implemented. I firmly believe that, and I'm an advocate of giving 100% friendly fire damage a chance. (Marines SHOULD NOT be hitting their teammates, and aliens would get a "skill-based nerf" that I'd like to see play out when grouping as fade or going heavy-side early game as skulk.)
While I'm not against FF for NS2 per se, the recent b254 update would make it absolutely horrible for aliens. The normal vision is ganked and way too cluttered to really support FF in my opinion.
I don't think FF is a good idea because it changes gameplay drastically, unless this is some kind of half-assed implementation that only sometimes does FF and sometimes doesn't.
And as for comp play, shouldn't it be about competing with the rules everyone plays by and not some mod that is for the competitive scene? It means you become good at a mod, not NS2 how the devs made it to be.
Even though we can pretty much all agree that NS2 devs make a lot of bad decisions now and then, but still, it is how the game is, and it's not meant for FF and while it can be played with FF, there are plenty of scarios where the game WILL play differently with FF on.
Just played a game with it on. Barely noticed it at all, except on summit I came from pipe junction to defend our pg that was going down to skulks and ended up killing it myself haha. The only situations that really worry me are phasing through from phase gates as a big group, those situations can get messy but I doubt it will be anywhere near as bad as we think.
