"If your division consists of two groups, the top 2 teams of each division group will make it into the final phases. The 1st placed team from Group A will meet the 2nd placed team from Group B, and the other way around."
- Just visited the ensl playoffs page to find that the top 4 teams of our (2 group) division have gone through to the playoffs? Not sure why when the rules state only the top 2 will?
Also we played a seeding match yesterday beating el-pheer to come top of the group but have been put against some random team instead of the "2nd placed team from Group B" as the rules state.
What is this bullshit? Getting a bit pissed off now at the rules being changed as and when it suites other teams.
Everyone suspected with the state of the game this could well be the last season of ensl due to teams dropping, just wanted to say congratulations to Zefram for sealing the deal.
I can understand wanting to prolong the season of a dieing game, but putting the top team from one group against the 4th from another is just a waste of a game. No offence to the team we are playing but we are going to steam roll over them.
I wouldn't be surprised if we win the final to find an announcement on ensl the next day that there will be a "grand final" where the teams have to play again to see who is the real winner, its getting that bad.
As the first of your own group, you have been put against the "worst" team of the other group, wich theoretically gives you more chance to advance in the playoffs, wich is a reward for being the first of your group.
1st of group x vs 4th of group y
2nd of group x vs 3rd of group y and vice versa
Following that logic you should meet the 1st of the other group in final. Wich makes sense.
As for the top 4 teams instead of the top 2 teams, you play more matches, why do you complain?
@king_yo I understand what he's done and how he's done it. I just don't understand why. There are now two teams from our division in the playoffs that didn't earn the right to be there and according to the rules/format of the season, shouldn't be there. Besides I don't want to play the worst team from group B, I want to play the best.
Season extended at the drop of a hat and teams that didn't qualify are suddenly thrown into the playoffs leading to the final. Bit of a joke really
It is a big inconvenience to have these rule changes at the last minute. Now the season is extended a week and people who had plans for Thanksgiving (american) are going to have some decisions to make. Also, what of the custom map cup?
so then schedule your game earlier. *shrugs* i hear that's difficult to do..
Also Kilo, i don't see an issue with it... it's the same thing that the premiere is doing, except that rather than play the 4th place team in your division you're playing the 2nd place team of another division of lower skill, big woop.
I don't get how people can get so upset over silly rules. I think people need a hug more often.
Isn't this the same guy that started a flame war a few weeks ago?
The way the seedings work is the same way they've been for every tournament I've ever been in... They seed the 1st place team against the last place team, 2nd best against 2nd worst, etc.
If they played top seed vs top seed in the quarter finals, that means teams that were seeded lower are getting a free pass to move on without beating the teams that are seeded above them.
If you don't want to play your quarterfinal match, you can always just forfeit. :D
I think the biggest issue here isn't other how the new quarter-finals system works, but the fact that the rules have changed pretty much overnight. There wasn't any notification about this beforehand, and we played several matches under the impression that a few rounds either way would put us out of the season, which in fact wasn't the case. I hardly think it is too much to ask for the rules here to last an entire season before they change, especially when it is only a few days before those rules come into effect.
There was a news post about Swalk leaving and Zefram taking over as league admin. Did you really anticipate nothing at all would change with a new league admin?
If you guys are that upset about having to play more matches, forfeit them. Problem solved.
My team would have moved on either way, but personally I'm a big fan of the changes. I thought it was kind of silly that Premiere, Div 1, and Div 4 all had 4 teams moving on from their groups, however div 2 & 3 each only had two moving on from their groups. It was weird.
It's only one more week of matches. You can always work with the other teams and try to play your games early.
You guys are crazy, you don't have a competitive competition and then 8 weeks in (with only 3 weeks remaining) change the whole format. Who cares if the admin changed half way through the season. You just don't
This is supposed to be a community ran game and website. Seems to me one guy is waking up each morning wondering what he feels like changing today.
I personally wont be entering again and if my team can play without me and find a replacement will be happy to forfeit this bullshit tournament and stop playing today.
I also find it a joke you cant disagree with anything on this forum without some nerd coming on throwing the word troll around and posting silly pictures/one liners.
Quite far up i would say, wanna join and experience the view? It's spectacular! You could learn a few things long the way, like the world doesnt circle around you, and i can almost see what they ate for breakfast, not a healthy choice this morning i see!
The world evolves around me? How about the ENSL doesnt revolve around Zefram. There are several teams involved in the league which are affected by these ridiculous changes. It's clear to me you cant comprehend the conversation, that's why you have to jump on topics posting some abstract noncence that doesnt relate to anything.
The game balance changes throughout the season anyway so the consistency goes out the window there but that's not ENSL's fault and you don't cry about that.
The format of the competition hasn't "completely changed" either. They just simply expanded the range of teams who can play in the knockout stage. That shouldn't be a big problem for anyone really because you're all seeded based on the league you've played over the last X amount of weeks.
I think everyone finds it a joke at how petty little things get you so worked up that you feel the need to call out on "bullshit". This is why people call you a troll, post .gifs, and do one lined comments; because either you're really a troll, or you react hilariously to the most mundane of things.
You DO realize that the only thing that was changed was two more teams from each group going on, right? Which turns into ONE more game for you? Just one? You are making a huuuge deal out of this when it is literally going to be one additional match, which you are free to forfeit if you truly don't want to play.
I am in the same position that you are in - My team "earned" our way to finals, and there are two more teams in my div that did not "earn it" according to Swalk's old rules. I'm just excited about the fact that this means my team gets to play more games and continue to prove ourselves. I'm glad that it was changed to make it the same across every group - 4 teams going on. Before, div 2 and 3 kind of got screwed. This is a good change.
Your team should certainly be able to find someone of equal/lesser skill to play for you.
Firstly, do you think there's like 150 people running the ENSL? Secondly, the season admin can change the rules whenever he/she feels like it, its in the rules. "All the above rules may change during the season at Season Admin's discretion" There right there at the bottom of the season rules written in red in-case you missed it among the rest of the bland lettering.

So many of the bad "Gamer" behaviours exhibited in this thread. *Sigh* I thought NS was a bit more grown up than this.
Kilo raises a perfectly legitimate point and instead of discussing it, you have the usual jumping down the throat of the messenger or rushing to defend based on the spurious logic of "I'm ok with it therefore it must be OK"
Any competitive sport must have rules. That's a given. I also disagree that the rules are subject to the admin's whim. For every decision they make they should and must be answerable to the sport (you), not above them.
Stop defending Zefram and call him to task. He represents this sport and you as it's competitive players. He can't make a unilateral decision like this without consulting anyone and call it legitimate.
Kilo is 100% correct and you should be supporting his position. You cannot have a cogent eSport where the rules, nay, but not just the rules, the whole format of it's only real competition get changed overnight (seemingly) at the admin's whim.
I've started watching NS (ENSL matches) for the first time in 10 years (since I was a dev on NS1) and it's been a brilliant season but as a viewer and supporter I've no interest in continuing to support a corrupt sport where I can't trust that the admins are acting in the interest of the sport.
Come on people: Can you imagine any other sports competition where it would be accepted by the community that the format is going to be changed 2 weeks before the end of the season?
Imagine if the (Soccer) World Cup, the World Series, the NFL, the NHL or whatever equivalent league you (may) follow in the real world did things like this? You'd be up in arms.
I'm astonished and very disappointed and most certainly won't be supporting any more of the ENSL this season (or possibly ever).
No wonder the damned thing keeps dying if this is the behaviour of the people responsible for its survival and the apathy of the community to such behaviour.
